Weekend work

It poured rain all day Saturday, and we had another big puddle in the back yard. By Sunday at noon the middle of the yard was dry (ish) - the only standing water was right outside of the shed. Peter promptly fell in the puddle, of course.

We did more post-storm tree-pruning, and had to get out the ladder. All that's left now is the tree that is leaning on the garden shed. We did lots more dandelion-digging. Michael did a great job of bagging up debris left in the unused driveway and moving it to the now heaping compost pile. I sulphered the blueberries and put a little on the spinach, which is looking weakly. I planted: more shell peas, next to the cabbages and in the bed under the deck; more spinach next to the blueberries; and in pots on the porch scarlet runner beans (which have 3/4 inch seeds!), marigolds (lemon gem and Queen Sophia), creeping thyme (incredibly tiny seeds!), carrots, beets, and spinach.

Of previous plantings, the peas are 3-4 inches tall, the spinach still only has its first two leaves, and the mesclun lettuces are thriving, some close to 2 inches. As far as spring overall, cherry trees are starting to leaf out, redbud is passing, and we have the second type of Turkish tulips in bloom in the yard. It's been rainy and/or cloudy for a long stretch but today is forecast for sun and 70, so I expect to see the Lady Banks rose starting to show it's stuff when we get home tonight.
