We had some extra dirt, so we used some granite blocks that were lying around to build a small bed against the fence, too:

So, peas (snow and shell) and spinach went into the raised bed on Saturday March 7. We put in broken branches as "pea brush" as usual. Thus far the peas have had most of a week of high 70s and sun followed by a long grey rainy weekend. They should be sprouting soon.

I also planted some mesclun lettuces in a planter on the back deck the same day. On Wednesday the 11th we planted two rabbiteye blueberries in the new bed by the fence, as well as a lemon thyme and a sage. More herbs and perennials (basil, sorrel, other things new to me) are temporarily in pots on the deck; I plan to move most of them to the side yard flower bed. The blueberries need to be cut back by 1/3 to 1/2 (sob, but will mean better fruit next year) and have some soil emendation (sulphur; they like acid soil) and they need some pine mulch (also for acid).
I ordered two native tawny daylilies with our farm co-op order this week, too! Next step in the garden is planting those and then planning where I will possibly fit more vegetables.
