Sunday I planted:
-more peas Premium (and I have a ton left - the neighbors are planning to till a bed this coming weekend, maybe they can use them) - in the bed under the deck and between the blueberries
-peas Alaska (gift from Ellen S.) - in the bed with the blueberries
-cowpeas, a climbing black-eyed pea (gift from Ellen S.) - along the lattice under the deck
-the first of the pole bean Fortex - ditto
-baby carrots, forget the cultivar but they only grow 3 inches long (bought by my mother) - in the bed under the deck
Everything planted so far is up, in the beds and in the pots on the deck, from the (enormous) scarlet runner beans to the (incredibly tiny) creeping thyme. We've had a lot of rain and severe weather (tornado watch: do not want!), so things are definitely staying wet, but I worry about them being pummeled into the ground.
I did some edge-trimming with the hand clippers yesterday, and tried to mow with our reel mower, but didn't get very far. Things are just too vigorous for a reel mower. We may wait until the star of bethlehem stops blooming and then borrow our neighbors' power mower and blast the whole place with it.
