Birds on the porch

When we moved into our house last July 25, there was a mourning dove nest on one of the porch columns, right across from the front door. The babies fledged after about a week or so, but not before I learned a lot of fun things about mourning doves on Wikipedia (for example, they are monogamous, always have two young, and can reproduce six times a year in warm climates!). After the nest was vacated, we cut down the overgrown perennial clematis that was climbing up that particular porch column (and found a bonus wasp nest in it!). In the course of this the remaining nest parts were removed. Early this spring we twice saw a mourning dove sit on that column and (anthropomorphization alert) look puzzled. No nest was built.

Now we have a nest on another porch column - one more out of the way, around the corner. The birds look like wrens, maybe; I haven't had a great look at them. Michael held Peter up to peek last night, and he reports there are eggs.
