gardening report

I have been very remiss about garden updates this spring, what with all the plumbing and home research excitement (more on both fronts soon!)

But we've had a rainy and warm spring, and everything has bloomed in its normal fashion. My iris, brought from Durham, bloomed heavily this year.

(Note that Eve took all these pictures. She is very interested in taking pictures right now.)

The front yard is lush and green; I love the way the light is, here.

In the vegetable arena, we have been eating spinach and kale for a couple of weeks, and the shell peas are heavy with pods but not fattened up yet.

We've got peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers in the blooming stage. There are several tomato and unidentified cucurbita volunteers from the compost layer that are quite healthy, and I am wondering what they will do. My tomatoes started from seed are still tiny little things, but I may transplant them anyway tomorrow. I have sunflowers and tithonia and basil to transplant, too, and bush beans, carrots, and beets have all sprouted.
