House History Research Workshop

This Sunday I'm planning to attend the following:

The Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation invites you to a

Historic Property Owners Workshop:

Revealing the Story of Your Historic Home.

Sunday, May 2 2:00-5:30 PM

258 Springdale Street

(home of Alex and Janet Patterson)

$15 Registration Fee

Space is limited; so please RSVP by Wednesday, April 28.

Our panel of experts will be:

Steven Brown, UGA Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscripts Library

Laura Carter, A-CC Library Heritage Room

Charlotte Marshall, historian and author

Alex Patterson, retired attorney, native Athenian, and historic property owner

If you have ever wondered when your house was built, who lived in your house, and what their stories are, you will enjoy this workshop. We have put together an exceptional panel of Athens-Clarke County historians, who will present everything you ever wanted to know about research but were afraid to ask! They'll also be taking research questions from attendees and you couldn't ask for a better group to help you solve the most vexing questions.

This workshop is geared toward historic property owners but, really, anyone interested in Athens history will enjoy this extremely informative and, I promise you, entertaining workshop. Space is limited; so, don't hesitate, reserve your spot today!

To register or for more information, call 706-353-1801 or e-mail achf@bellsouth. net.

I hope it is a) fun and b) helps me along the path to learning about our house. My big interest at the moment is historic photos of our house, so we can see what kind of a roof it originally had. We've got asphalt shingles now, and would like to switch to a metal roof for a variety of reasons, but since we're in an historic district and thinking about state tax credits for historic renovation, we'll need to consider the historic roofing material of the house in our decision-making.
