Mae Burden O'Kelley Obituary

With the help of Laura at the Athens Clarke County Library's Heritage Room I was able to track down the date of death and obituary for Mae (May) (Ettie M.) Burden O'Kelley.

She died Monday, June 23, 1969, at the age of 89, in Fulton County GA (though a resident of Clarke County.)

Her obituary appeared in the Athens Banner Herald for Tuesday June 24, 1969, on page 2, column 4:

Mrs. Mae Burden O'Kelley, 89, of Athens, died in a local hospital Monday following a short illness. Mrs. O'Kelley was born in Elbert County and had lived in Athens for the past 58 years.

Funeral services will be held at the Union Baptist Church Wednesday at 11 am, with the Reverend Joe Wingfield officiating and the Reverend Robert Whitehead assisting. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Frances North of Atlanta, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I also got some more deed citations to track down, and now I can look for her will, both at the courthouse.
