Title: O'Kelley Rites Set Wednesday

Edward J. O'Kelley, well known resident of 880 Hill Street, died in a local hospital Monday night at 9:40 o'clock. Mr. O'Kelley was 82 years old and had been ill for several months.

Services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from Union Baptist Church in Madison County, with Rev. R. E. Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Union cemetery, Bernstein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Herman Dickerson, Hoke Dickerson, Dozier Phelps, Mell Carter, James Burden and Charles O'Kelley.

Mr. Burden [sic!] is survived by his wife, Mrs. May Burden O'Kelley, Athens; three sistersm Mrs. L. G. Sailors, Miss Ileen O'Kelley, and Miss Cynthia O'Kelley, all of Hull; two brothers, J. R. O'Kelley, Hapeville, and W. R. O'Kelley, Greensboro, and several nieces and nephews.

He was a native of Madison County, Ga., the son of the late George O'Kelley and Eliza Pitman O'Kelley and had lived in Athens for 30 years.

He was educated in Commerce city schools and the old Rock College, later known as the State Normal School and now the Navy Supply Corps School.

For a number of years he taught school in Madison and Clarke Counties. He then attended and graduated from the Georgia-Alabama Business College in Macon and taught a that school.

For a time before retiring he operated a public stenographers office in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church and until his health failed was very active in it.

The body will be in state in the church for one hour prior to the services.

[end article.] But, my guy was a grocer/merchant (according to both the city directories and the census)! There can't have been two, right? Not living at the same house, same age, and all. I guess this is a lesson on how any one historical source won't give you the full story.
