Taking down the ceiling!

We spent $184 at Lowe's Saturday morning, getting the first batch of things necessary for the bathroom repairs. Important for the first step were: drywall saw, dust masks, trash bags, and a shopvac.

It turns out it's really easy to cut holes in a ceiling made of wet drywall:

And while it makes a mess, it was fairly easy to clean up. Michael took down maybe 10 square feet of ceiling in maybe 45 minutes. There's more that's still damp, but this seemed like a good stopping place for now.

The insurance person will be able to see the situation clearly, and we got some of the debris out. There was a bunch of mouse poop (see photo), some pecan shells (where in the walls of our house is there NOT a stash of pecan shells?) and a couple of articulated squirrel limbs (not pictured; you're welcome.)

Peter was fascinated by the process, although the noise of the saw moving through the drywall scared him. I suspect it reminded him of thunder.

  1. I am impressed with the industriousness. And more and more scared to be a homeowner. :)
