Ceiling squirrels

Our house in in an area that was once a pecan orchard. We have 5 mature pecan trees in the yard; this means we have a lot of squirrels. And some of them have taken up residence in our attic. I hear them scritching around at various times, and boy does the cat hear them too. Their entry is via the back dormer:

back dormer

where, as you can see from this picture, they have eaten some of the metal flashing. Michael got up on a ladder yesterday and found two entry holes, one on each side of the dormer. He also set two have-a-heart traps, suspended on strings outside the dormer, baited with pecans embedded in peanut butter (this made me laugh).

This morning there was a captive squirrel. Since it is all we can do to get out of the house with everyone dressed and fed in the morning, he did not actually deal with the captive squirrel. I guess he will have to tonight: I hope he has a plan...

Breaking news! Just before I hit post I got an email from Michael; he went home for lunch to deal with the traps and found both had caught birds. He released one, but the other was dead. Now he is sad.
