Good news and Bad news

The good: we finally got a filter put into our furnace system! The furnace was replaced when the house was put up for sale, and the new furnace is a nice one, efficient and so forth. But the installers neglected to put a filter in, or any place to put a filter. We knew about this when we bought the house, but it took us 15 months to actually do anything about it. But now, thanks to Nat Belger of Superior Air Management, we have one! We got an up-to-date 5-inch pleated filter, I think an Aprilaire, which we'll change annually. (Note to self: remember to change the filter annually.) This will help our furnace run more efficiently (not all clogged up with dust) and should help the indoor air quality some, too (not a huge amount, since the house is old and not airtight by any means).

And it's pretty!

This is a less pretty picture of the dining room ceiling, and new water damage. Yes, it's been raining like whoa, but the roof is supposed to keep all that rain from, you know, entering the house.

Michael got up in the eaves above the area, and reports that there is active water incursion. So, we've moved up the new roof discussion. I think the first step is a consult with our neighbor the contractor, either to see if he can recommend someone (he recommended Nat Belger who was great) or can do it himself. If it would reduce the cost of insulating and sealing the attic properly to do it while we have the roof off (saving the need to cut holes in the wall), we should explore that possibility, too.

  1. Urgh! I have a love/hate relationship with home ownership. Just when we get a few $ saved, a big project comes up. Sorry about your roof issues.
