more harvesting

We've now had 3 cucumbers from the garden, and two different types of bean: pole beans, in green, and royal burgundy beans which are purple outside and green inside and cook up green if they make it into a pan rather than being devoured raw (the fate of all of ours so far).

cucumbers and beans (2 kinds)

We've got many more cucumbers in various stages of development, and more beans on the way - the two kinds above, plus the bush bean Medina, which is blooming heavily and should be producing within a few days.

The other very exciting news about our yard isn't actually taking place in our yard. Our neighbor has begun the reclamation of his yard from the waving field of kudzu. It's a phenomenal amount of work (being done by a very nice young man) and it's looking great!

kudzu no more!

They aren't done yet, but already the progress is stunning, and if it wasn't predicted to be 97-100 degrees this weekend, I would be planning to work on digging up some of the roots that have strayed over to our yard. As it is, I am going to water the beans and then go to the pool.

In mundane but necessary news, we had Lavender Pest Control treat for termites on Tuesday. Now we need an annual inspection, but aside from that are under warranty and safe for many years, including if we sell the house. They were professional, as expected.
