we have achieved germination

At least, in the small pots on the windowsill. Unfortunately I have already forgotten which tomatoes are the cherry and which the Cherokee Purple (or was it Brandywine?), and this matters because I was planning to put the cherries in pots on the deck. I hope that it will become obvious once they come along a little - I think the one is determinate and the other indeterminate, and those look rather different once they get to be 3-5 inches tall. The giant leaves belong to the scarlet runner beans. I guess I need to start building their tuteur.

germination

In the back yard, there are spinach sprouts but not much else, lo these 11 days after planting. Hmm. I don't recall peas taking so long, and we've had both rain and (today) glorious sun. The kids helped me put in peas, spinach and kale on March 6, and I did some more peas a few days later, and planted spinach in a pot on the deck this past Wednesday (the 17th). I need more places to put peas; will dig over the second bed this weekend. I am proud of myself for digging out the compost pile and adding a lot of good compost to the raised bed before the seeds went in on the 6th.
