new year, new thermostat!

We got a new programmable thermostat for Christmas. Yes, I know this ranks right up there in the annals of touchy-feely presents, but I wanted it! Michael found it easy to install, although it took longer than the 15 minutes the packaging touted, because he decided to sand and spackle the wall behind it.



While we are, in theory, capable of turning the heat up when we're home and down when we're not, in practice, let's be reasonable. A programmable thermostat can do that for us, and should pay for itself this year.

It's just in time for our cold snap - it was 21 degrees (-6 C) this morning at 7am! Yesterday there was ice in the shady parts of the yard at 3pm, and the ground was crunchy with frost. There's some possibility of snow flurries on Wednesday night or Thursday.
