The first change

The first week we were in the house, I felt I needed to change something, to make the house really feel ours. We were (and are) full of theoretical things we'd like to do with the house (rearrange the kitchen so the stove can have a hood vented to outside; screen in a porch or the deck; re-hang doors and add screen doors; you name it) but I wanted to do one concrete thing.

So we replaced this light switch plate:
before

with a new one from Target:
after

The old one is stamped 1968 on the back, and that looks about right, stylistically. The new one doesn't fit flush, and it's cockeyed, but it made the house *ours*.

  1. I know what you mean--I don't have enough time or money to do what I really want, so I have to make do with tiny projects, like I hung a fish-shaped trivet on the bathroom wall...it makes sense. Really.
