Boy is it dry in Athens this summer. We had a quick thunderstorm with torrential rains - probably an inch - on Saturday night, and it's crazy dry again as of today.
We had lots of peas, most of which were eaten off the vine by the children. We had spinach and kale like crazy, some of which I have frozen. We still have kale, actually.
I've just picked the third round of beans, which are none too happy. I planted new ones a week or so ago, and they are up, but everything is rather dry and bug-eaten right now.
I've had 2 cherokee purple tomatoes off the plants on the porch. The cherry tomatoes are about to start to come in, and those will go on all summer.
I just picked the first cucumber, and there's another almost ready, and several tiny ones. Just need to keep watering.
I've had 1 zucchini, and there are 3 nearly ready. They're not growing fast, crazy mutant zucchini.
The birds got all the blueberries, as usual, but some blackberries are ripening.
The sunflowers are blooming, although many have toppled, and some have problems with something (squirrels, or bugs?) biting the stems in half.
Sure is dry and hot. Forecast every day is high 94-95, low 62-65, slight chance of thunderstorms. Exactly the same the last 2 weeks, and for the forseeable future.
