garden a go go

It's been rainy and in the low 80s all week - absolutely perfect weather for things to grow like crazy. Here's where we stand:

peas! and new bed

Peas: I expect to eat shell peas tonight. They are still blooming, but the first pods are filling. The snow peas next to them have finally started to bloom. Later plantings are coming along like gangbusters.
Spinach: also will eat some tonight. Second planting in a pot on the deck is off to a slowish start.
Mesclun lettuces: these should be harvested; some are going to seed even though they never got very big.
Pole beans: the ones planted under the deck are a foot tall and being rather stupid about finding the lattice for support. I've planted more around the base of the large tomato cages.
Tomatoes: I got 4 seedlings from Athens Locally Grown last week: Cherokee Purple, Brandywine, Better Boy (I think - one of the standard hybrids, anyway), and a cherry tomato. The first three are planted in the new bed in the back, and the last is in the front garden.
Zucchini: In a fit of insanity, I got 6 seedlings. Two are in pots on the deck, two at the base of the side garden, beneath the rosemary, and two in the blueberry bed (I moved the lemon thyme that was there to the side yard).
Cucumbers: also 6 seedlings (from Normal Hardware). Four are in the front garden, on a tomato cage, and two are in the new bed, with the Better Boy tomato.
Carrots: spouted and feathery in both the pot on the deck and the under-deck bed (two different kinds).
Beets: sprouted in the pot on the deck. Need to plant more.
Bush beans: planted Royal Burgundy in the under-deck bed on Thursday, not sprouted yet. The new bed will house the green ones. Need to get these in!
Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Acorn Squash: I started some seeds in pots on the deck last weekend. No action yet, and I need to start more.

deck plants

I've moved the deck pots back so they don't get so much sun. It is very hot and baking on the deck - the back part gets full sun pretty much all day.
